Chapter 22 - THE MAN WHO HAD TO EARN FORGIVENESS

Six months later, my son was born.

The day I held him for the first time, everything became quiet.

No lawyers.

No threats.

No lies.

Just me.

And my baby.

Daniel stood near the hospital window.

He didn't come closer.

Not until I allowed him.

That was something I made clear.

He could not demand forgiveness.

He had to earn it.

“I never thought I would see this day.”

His voice was quiet.

I looked at him.

“Neither did I.”

He nodded.

“I know I don’t deserve to be here.”

I looked down at our son.

“You’re right.”

Daniel accepted the words.

No anger.

No excuses.

“I hurt you.”

“Yes.”

“I betrayed you.”

“Yes.”

“I almost destroyed everything.”

The room became silent.

Then he whispered:

“But I want to spend the rest of my life fixing what I broke.”

I looked at him.

The old Anna would have immediately forgiven him.

The old Anna would have focused on the good memories.

The woman I became couldn't do that anymore.

Love was not enough.

Trust mattered.

Actions mattered.

Time mattered.

“I don’t know what happens next.”

Daniel nodded.

“I understand.”

“But…”

He looked up.

“But?”

I took a breath.

“You can start by being his father.”

Tears filled his eyes.

Not because everything was forgiven.

Because he was finally given a chance to do something right.

Outside the hospital room, Michael smiled.

“You two finally learned something.”

I looked at him.

“What?”

He shrugged.

“Family isn't about blood.”

He looked at my son.

“It’s about who stays when things fall apart.”
