Chapter 21 - THE MAN WHO THOUGHT HE WON

Victor Hale stood in the middle of my house like he still owned it.

Like he had never been hunted.

Like he had never been exposed.

He looked at Daniel.

Then Michael.

Then me.

And he smiled.

“You’re all looking at me like I'm the villain.”

Nobody answered.

Because sometimes the most dangerous people are the ones who believe they are the heroes.

Victor slowly walked closer.

“I built this family.”

Michael stepped forward.

“No.”

His voice was cold.

“You destroyed it.”

Victor laughed.

“Your grandfather was weak.”

He looked around the room.

“Your father was weak.”

Then his eyes moved to Daniel.

“And you were always weak.”

Daniel’s hands tightened.

But he didn't look away.

“That’s why you used me.”

Victor smiled.

“Yes.”

The honesty shocked everyone.

“I needed someone inside the family.”

Daniel looked hurt.

Even after everything…

Hearing the truth still hurt.

Victor continued.

“You were desperate for your mother’s approval.”

Daniel said nothing.

“And desperate people are easy to control.”

The room became silent.

I looked at Daniel.

For the first time, I didn't see the man who hurt me.

I saw someone who finally understood how much damage he had allowed.

But understanding didn't erase consequences.

It never would.

Victor turned back to me.

“You still don’t understand why your son matters.”

I held my stomach.

“He is not yours.”

Victor smiled.

“That’s where you're wrong.”

“No.”

My voice was calm.

“You’re wrong because you think people are possessions.”

His expression changed.

A small crack.

“You think money gives you the right to control lives.”

I stepped closer.

“You were wrong about me.”

Victor stared.

“You were hanging from a balcony.”

“Yes.”

I looked directly into his eyes.

“And I survived.”

The front door opened.

Police officers entered.

Victor froze.

Michael smiled.

“You talk too much.”

Victor looked around.

“How?”

Daniel lifted his phone.

“Your confession was recorded.”

Victor’s face changed.

For the first time…

Fear appeared.

Not because he lost money.

Because he lost control.

As officers placed handcuffs on him, Victor looked at me.

“This isn't over.”

I watched him being taken away.

Then I whispered:

“Yes.”

“It is.”
