Chapter 11 - THE TRUTH HIDDEN BEFORE MY SON WAS BORN
I couldn't move.
I couldn't even understand the words Victor had just spoken.
“My baby was chosen?”
The room felt smaller.
The walls felt closer.
Michael stepped forward.
“Stop playing games.”
Victor looked at him.
“I don’t play games.”
He tapped the file.
“I reveal truths.”
I grabbed the folder.
“What is this?”
Victor sat down.
“Your pregnancy was monitored from the beginning.”
“That’s impossible.”
“No.”
His eyes were cold.
“It was planned.”
I looked through the documents.
Medical appointments.
Financial records.
Private communications.
My name appeared everywhere.
But there was something strange.
A code.
Not my name.
Not my baby’s name.
A project number.
C-17.
“What does this mean?”
Victor smiled.
“Your husband’s family has spent generations protecting their wealth.”
Michael’s hands tightened.
“They used my mother.”
Victor nodded.
“She was desperate.”
“And Daniel?”
Victor looked away.
“Daniel was weak.”
Those words hurt because they were true.
Daniel wasn't innocent.
He made choices.
Bad choices.
Cruel choices.
But someone had pushed him.
Someone had convinced him.
I closed the file.
“Who is the woman in the photo?”
Victor didn't answer.
I looked at him.
“Answer me.”
“She was part of the plan.”
My stomach tightened.
“She is my doctor.”
Victor nodded.
The room went silent.
The person I trusted with my baby…
Was connected to the people trying to control him.
Michael immediately grabbed his phone.
“We need to report this.”
Victor laughed.
“You still don’t understand.”
Michael turned.
“What?”
“They already know.”
A chill went through me.
“Who?”
Victor looked directly at me.
“The people who have been watching you.”
Then the lights outside suddenly went off.
A car alarm started screaming.
Michael looked toward the window.
“Everyone down!”
The glass shattered.
A bullet hit the wall.
Victor dropped to the floor.
And someone outside whispered through a speaker:
“Give us the baby.”
