CHAPTER 39: THE WEDDING

The wedding was small.

Just family and close friends. My father walked me down the aisle. Sophie was my maid of honor. Daniel's children flew in from across the country.

I wore a simple white dress. Daniel wore a gray suit.

We said our vows in the garden of the lake house.

"I promise to love you, honor you, and stand by you through everything," I said.

"I promise to cherish you, protect you, and never let you face anything alone," he replied.

We exchanged rings.

And we kissed.

Sophie cried.

My father cried.

I cried too.

But they were tears of joy.

Because I had finally found what I had been searching for my whole life.

Love.

Not the love of a family that had hurt me.

May you like

But the love I had chosen.

And that was the most beautiful thing of all.
