CHAPTER 28: THE REVELATION

A month later, I received a package in the mail.

It was from my father.

Inside was a letter and a photo.

The photo was of me. I was five years old, sitting on my grandfather's lap. He was smiling. I was laughing.

The letter was from my grandfather. Written years ago.

Evelyn,

When you read this, I'll be gone. But I want you to know something.

Your mother was never meant to be a mother. She was too selfish. Too cold. Too broken.

But you were never broken. You were always the one who could heal.

I'm proud of you. For everything you've become.

With all my love,

Grandfather

I held the letter to my chest.

I had never doubted my grandfather's love. But I had never known how much he saw.

He had seen the future.

He had seen me.

And he had believed in me.

I smiled.

I had come so far.

And I had done it all on my own.

May you like

I was proud of myself.

And I knew my grandfather would have been proud too.
