CHAPTER 14: THE HEALING

Sophie started therapy.
She had nightmares.
She had fears.
She had questions I couldn't answer.
But she also had me.
I did everything I could.
I took her to counseling.
I let her talk.
I held her when she cried.
And slowly, she started to heal.
"Mommy?"
"Yes, baby?"
"Do you think Uncle Preston is sorry?"
"I don't know. But I hope he is."
"Should I forgive him?"
I thought about it.
About all the things that had happened.
About all the things that could have been different.
"I think you should do what feels right."
She nodded.
"I don't want to be angry," she said.
"Then don't be angry. You're not doing it for him. You're doing it for you."
She hugged me.
And I hugged her back.
May you like

It was about letting go of the weight you didn't have to carry.
