CHAPTER 33: THE DREAM

That night, I had a dream.
I was back at the farmers market.
Emma was running ahead of me.
Her pink sneakers were flashing.
She laughed.
The sun was warm.
The air was sweet.
And I was happy.
Truly happy.
Then I woke up.
The sun was streaming through the window.
Emma was standing in the doorway.
"Mom? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, baby. Just remembering."
"Remembering what?"
"How lucky I am. To have you. To have this life. To have everything."
She smiled.
"You're weird, Mom."
"I know. But you love me anyway."
"Yes, I do."
I got up.
I made breakfast.
And I looked out at the hills.
At the peace.
At the future.
And I knew that everything I'd been through had led me here.
To this moment.
To this life.
To this peace.
May you like
And I was grateful.
More than I could ever express.
