CHAPTER 18: THE OFFER

Olivia stayed for three days.
She showed me everything.
The network.
The people.
The crimes.
It was bigger than I'd imagined.
International.
Influential.
Dangerous.
But there was something else.
A chance.
A way to fight back.
"I have a source," Olivia said. "Someone inside the network. They're willing to testify. But they need protection."
"Protection?"
"Witness protection. They're afraid. They know what happens to people who talk."
"What would they say?"
"Everything. Names. Locations. Dates. Everything."
"Then why haven't they come forward?"
"Because they need a guarantee. A promise that their family will be safe."
"What do they want from me?"
"A statement. A public acknowledgment. They want to know someone is listening."
"I can do that."
"I'm not asking for a press conference. I'm asking for a letter. Something they can show their lawyers. Something that proves we're serious."
I thought about it.
About the risk.
About the danger.
But I also thought about Emma.
About the world she'd have to grow up in.
A world where people like Julian Blackwood existed.

And I made a decision.
"Write the letter," I said. "I'll sign it."
