CHAPTER 23: THE NEW HOME

The house was beautiful.
Old stone walls. Large windows. A garden in the back.
Emma loved it instantly.
"Mommy, look! A swing!"
She ran outside.
I watched her from the window.
Smiling for the first time in months.
Thomas stood beside me.
"We've set up security. Cameras. Guards. You'll be safe here."
"Thank you."
"Don't thank me yet. The network is still out there. They're still looking."
"When will it end?"
"Honestly? I don't know. But we're getting closer. Julian Blackwood is being tracked. Daniel is being tracked. Sooner or later, they'll slip up."
"And then?"
"And then we'll catch them. And you'll finally be free."
I nodded.
But I didn't really believe it.
Freedom was a luxury.
And I'd already lost my share.
But I kept hope.
Because that's all I had.

And it was enough.
