CHAPTER 25: THE TURN

It happened on a Sunday.

The guards were doing their usual rounds.

Emma was in the garden.

I was in the kitchen.

And then the glass shattered.

I ran.

Emma was screaming.

A man was holding her.

Not Daniel.

Someone else.

Someone who worked for Julian Blackwood.

"Let her go!" I shouted.

He laughed.

"She's coming with me."

"No."

I grabbed a fire extinguisher.

Smashed it against his head.

He dropped Emma.

She ran toward me.

"MOMMY!"

I grabbed her.

And I ran.

The house was chaos.

Guards everywhere.

Gunshots.

Screaming.

But I didn't stop.

I kept running.

And I made it to the car.

Thomas was already there.

"GET IN!"

We drove.

Fast.

Away from the house.

Away from the danger.

Away from everything.

Emma was crying.

"It's okay, baby. It's okay. I've got you."

They were empty words.

But they were all I had.

And I wasn't going to let anyone take my daughter again.

May you like

Not now.

Not ever.
