CHAPTER 28: THE TEARS

Emma asked me about Daniel one day.

"Mommy, where's Daddy?"

I didn't know what to say.

"He's gone, sweetheart."

"Will he come back?"

"No."

"Is he ever coming home?"

"No."

She started to cry.

I held her.

"I miss him, Mommy."

"I know, baby. I know."

"Why did he leave?"

I couldn't tell her the truth.

Not yet.

So I just held her.

And I let her cry.

And I promised myself that one day I would tell her.

But not now.

Not yet.

When she was older.

When she could understand.

For now, all I could do was hold her.

And love her.

May you like

And protect her.

From everything.
