CHAPTER 17: THE VISITOR

She arrived on a Tuesday.

Her name was Olivia.

She was a young woman, maybe mid-twenties.

Dark hair. Sharp eyes.

And a file folder full of information.

"Mrs. Harper? My name is Olivia Chen. I'm a journalist. I've been investigating your husband's network for the past two years."

"I don't have anything to say."

"I think you will. Once you see what I found."

She handed me the folder.

I opened it.

And I stared.

Inside were photos. Documents. Financial records.

Daniel's name was all over them.

But there was something else.

A name I didn't recognize.

Julian Blackwood.

"Who is this?"

"Julian Blackwood is the head of the network. The man your husband worked for. And he's been looking for Emma for a long time."

"What does he want?"

"The money. But also the power. Emma is a symbol. She represents everything he's been trying to achieve."

"A symbol of what?"

"A new generation. A new system. He's been building an empire. And Emma is the key."

"The key to what?"

"I don't know yet. But I'm going to find out. And I need your help."

"Why would I help you?"

"Because I can help you. I can give you the information you need to keep Emma safe."

I looked at the photos.

At the faces I didn't recognize.

At the man who wanted to destroy everything I loved.

"Tell me what to do," I said.

And I meant it.

Because I would do anything.

For Emma.

May you like

For the truth.

For justice.
