On election night, we waited at the community center. When the results came in, the room went quiet for a heartbeat—then erupted. Victor Voss had won by a landslide.

He stood at the podium, looking out at the sea of faces. “This isn’t my victory. It’s yours. Every one of you who refused to believe things couldn’t get better.”
