On the one-year anniversary of that night in the karaoke room, we returned there—not as enemies, but as people who’d survived. The owners had renovated it, changed the name, and instituted strict rules about respect and safety.

I stood in the same spot where I’d been grabbed, and this time, people stepped aside not out of fear, but out of respect.

Victor put his hand on my shoulder. “You turned the worst night of your life into something better for everyone.”

“I didn’t do it alone,” I said.
