CHAPTER 34: The Confession

When Corvo was brought in for questioning, he tried to blame everything on dead associates and anonymous partners. But the evidence we’d gathered was too complete—witness statements, bank trails, surveillance footage, and the testimony of the men he’d sent to the clinic. Faced with years in prison, he finally broke.
“I didn’t want to start this,” he spat across the table. “But someone told me you were weak now. That you wouldn’t fight dirty anymore. That I could take everything while you were busy playing hero.”
“Who told you that?” Victor asked, his voice level.
“A man who said he knew how you worked,” Corvo said. “Said he’d been your partner once. Said he’d watched you change from the inside out.”
He named a name that made Elias sit straight: Caleb Rourke. The man who’d managed Victor’s most secret operations for ten years—until Victor shut them all down. Everyone thought Rourke had retired quietly to another country. He hadn’t. He’d been waiting in the shadows, convinced Victor had betrayed everything they’d built together.
