CHAPTER 22: The Return Of The Past

Three days later, a lawyer from out of state arrived at Victor’s office with a sealed envelope. Inside was a copy of Victor’s father’s will—one that had been hidden for decades.
It stated clearly that half the original fortune had been set aside for any heir who’d been separated from the family. Which meant… Jude—my uncle, the twin brother I’d never known about until years before—was entitled to half of everything.
Victor sat back, stunned. “My father knew. All along.”
“He did,” the lawyer said. “And he made sure it would be found only when the time was right.”
That evening, we drove two hours to the auto shop Jude still ran, quiet and unassuming. When we laid the papers on his workbench, he just shook his head. “I don’t want your money. I never have.”
“It’s not just money,” Victor said. “It’s family. It’s what should have been yours from the start.”
