Chapter 15 - The Recording
The strongest evidence came from the device beneath Martha’s bed.
Bianca had installed it to spy on her.
But the transmitter had local storage.
It recorded Bianca talking to Raymond while they believed Martha was asleep.
Raymond said.
“After the wedding, the old woman becomes irrelevant.”
Bianca answered.
“No.”
“She dies first.”
“Julian needs to be grieving.”
“He’ll sign anything.”
Then Raymond asked about the helicopter.
Bianca replied.
“I want it done before he discovers the transfer.”
The defense could not explain the recording away.
Bianca looked at Julian as it played.
He saw shame.
Fear.
Maybe regret.
None changed the words.
Then the recording continued beyond what investigators had expected.
Raymond said.
“You’re becoming just like me.”
Bianca answered.
“No.”
“I’m becoming what your family made.”
Martha lowered her head.
Julian understood the tragedy.
The Hale family had helped create the wound.
Bianca had chosen what to do with it.
