Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Revolt

Some board members began to question Clara's methods.
One man in particular, Roger Hastings, called for a vote of no confidence.
"She's too emotional," he argued. "This is personal revenge, not business strategy."
The board room was packed.
Clara sat at the head of the table.
"Mr. Hastings, you've been a board member for twelve years."
"Yes."
"During that time, Sterling Resorts lost thirty-seven percent of its value."
"That wasn't my fault."
"You were the chief financial officer."
He shifted uncomfortably.
"Your mother—"
"My mother is not the topic."
Clara pulled out a folder.
"These are the records of your personal spending."
"Over the last decade, you've charged personal vacations, private school tuition, and a collection of classic cars to the company account."
"That's a lie."
"It's all documented. Every single expense. Every single approval you forged."
"You'll be removed from the board today."
"But I have votes!"
Clara smiled.
"Not anymore."
She pointed to the chairman.
"Mr. Hastings, you're out. Security will escort you to the lobby. Your severance is zero."
He sputtered, then rose in fury.
"You can't destroy me."
May you like
"I already have."
She watched as he was led away.
