Chapter 16 - The Rebuilding

Clara took a week away.

She traveled to her mother's hometown.

She visited her grave.

She sat beside the headstone and talked.

"Mom, I don't know what to do."

"I thought I had it all figured out."

"But everything is complicated."

"I'm working with a man whose family killed you."

"I don't know if I can forgive that."

A breeze rustled through the trees.

She imagined her mother's voice.

"Forgiveness isn't about forgetting, Clara."

"It's about choosing to move forward."

She closed her eyes.

"I'll try, Mom."

"I'll try."

She returned to New York.

She called Victor.

"I've made a decision."

"Clara, I'm ready to listen."

"I'm not going to punish you for your father's sins."

"Victor, you're not him."

"You've proven that."

Victor exhaled deeply.

"Clara, thank you."

"Thank you for giving me a chance."

She smiled.

"Let's build something better."
