Chapter 6 - The Asset Strip

The Whitlock family assets began disappearing one by one.
First the lake house.
Then the private jet.
Then the penthouse.
Every property tied to Sterling Resorts became property of Mason Hospitality Group.
Andrew tried to intervene.
He begged Clara to stop.
She refused.
He tried to reason with her.
She wouldn't listen.
Then he tried a different approach.
He showed up at her office with a bouquet of white roses.
"Clara, please."
She didn't take the flowers.
"Andrew, you need to stop."
"I know I made a mistake. I know I hurt you. But what you're doing to my mother is going too far."
"She did this to herself."
"Clara, she's an old woman."
"She was old when she fired my mother."
"She was old when she watched her walk out the door, knowing she'd never see her again."
"She knew exactly what she was doing, Andrew. She just didn't expect payback."
Andrew dropped the roses.
"I loved you."
"You loved control. You loved a woman who would stay quiet and let your mother control everything."
"Clara, that's not true."
"It's true. You proved it at the wedding. When my dress was torn, you didn't defend me. You asked me to apologize."
"I was scared of her."
"And I was scared of losing you."
May you like
"I didn't think—"
"No. You didn't. And now you're paying the price."
