Chapter 5 - The Foreclosure

Patricia Whitlock received the foreclosure notice at 3:00 PM.

She was in her sitting room, sipping tea and plotting her next move against Clara.

Her butler entered with a silver tray.

On it sat a single envelope.

She opened it with manicured fingers.

Her face turned crimson.

"This can't be legal."

Andrew walked into the room.

"What's wrong?"

"The bank is foreclosing on our lake house."

"The one Grandpa left you?"

"The same."

"How is that possible?"

"Clara bought the bank."

Andrew's jaw tightened.

"She's destroying us."

"It's not destruction, Andrew. It's revenge."

"But why?"

"She's been planning this her entire life."

Patricia stormed into Clara's office without an appointment.

Security tried to stop her, but she pushed past them.

Clara looked up from her desk.

"Mrs. Whitlock. What a surprise."

"You think you've won?"

"I think you've underestimated me."

Patricia slammed the foreclosure notice on the desk.

"This is illegal."

"It's perfectly legal. I bought the bank. I own the mortgage. I'm exercising my rights."

"You're doing this out of spite."

Clara stood.

"I'm doing this because you deserve it."

"You humiliated my mother. You fired her while she was dying of cancer. You let her walk out of Whitestone with nothing."

"Your family made millions off her labor, and you couldn't even spare her a few extra weeks of health insurance."

Patricia stepped back.

"Your mother was a housekeeper."

"She was the best employee you ever had. You knew it. You still fired her because she asked for a raise to pay for her treatments."

"Her cancer wasn't my problem."

May you like

Clara's voice went cold.

"Everything is about to become your problem."
