Chapter 8 - The Trust Unravels

Three days later, I received an urgent call from my estate attorney, David Miller.

"Sarah, you need to come to my office immediately," David said over the encrypted line.

"Eleanor Westwood just filed an emergency injunction against your personal bank accounts."

I arrived at David’s downtown office within twenty minutes.

David handed me a stack of court papers stamped with a red seal.

"Eleanor’s lawyer is claiming that the money you used to pay the apartment rent came from Arthur's family trust," David explained.

"She’s suing you for four hundred thousand dollars in retroactive reimbursement."

I let out a harsh, bitter laugh.

"She thinks I stole from her trust?"

"David, every single dollar came from my hospital salary and my pharmaceutical research patents."

"I have every tax return for the last twelve years."

"I know," David smiled grimly, pulling out a thick manila folder.

"Which is why this lawsuit is the biggest mistake Eleanor Westwood ever made."

"Because to prove her claim, her lawyer had to submit her family trust’s complete financial records to the court."

"And guess what we found inside those records, Sarah?"
