Chapter 8: The Deal

I froze. Hands raised slowly. “Put the gun down. Whatever you want—money, the company—take it. Just let her go.”
Voss smirked, waving the gun between me and Lily. “Smart man. But you don’t get to make deals. I do. Here’s what happens: You sign over every share of Hale Corp right now. You sign over your house, your accounts, everything. And then… I’ll think about not putting a bullet in her head.”
“I don’t have the papers here!”
“Then we go to your office. Right now. And if you try anything—if you so much as look at a phone—Victoria gets to have some more fun with your girl before we leave.” He nodded at Victoria, who stepped forward and ran a finger down Lily’s cheek. Lily flinched so hard the chair scraped across concrete.
“Fine,” I said through gritted teeth. “I’ll sign. All of it. Just don’t touch her.”
“Good.” Voss gestured to the door. “Victoria—stay here with her. If we’re not back in two hours… you know what to do.”
My heart stopped. I looked back at Lily one last time. Her eyes were full of terror—but there was something else too. A tiny, fierce nod. Like she had a plan.
