Chapter 12: The Confession

The agents raised their weapons but didn’t fire. Sarah stepped forward, hands up.

“Victoria. It’s over. We have every email, every transfer, every conversation between you and Voss. We have the warehouse cameras. We have proof you beat Lily, proof you forged documents, proof you’re part of a conspiracy to defraud and kidnap. You’re looking at life in prison. Maybe worse.”

Victoria’s hand shook. Tears spilled down her cheeks—real tears, for the first time. “I didn’t have a choice! My brother… he owed Voss two million. If I didn’t do what he said, they’d kill him!”

“So you hurt an innocent girl? You tried to destroy a whole family?” I asked, my voice tight.

“I thought… I thought once I had the money, I could pay them back and stop. I never meant to hurt her—not really. But she found the letter… and then everything spiraled.” She looked at Lily, then at me. “Let her go. She’s done nothing wrong. Take me instead.”

Lily suddenly slammed her elbow back into Victoria’s stomach. Victoria gasped, her grip loosening. Lily twisted free and ran straight toward me. I caught her, holding her so tight I thought I’d squeeze her right through.

Agents swarmed forward and cuffed Victoria. She didn’t fight. She just looked at the ground, broken.
