Chapter 4: The Frame Job

I burst through the penthouse doors and two officers stepped forward, cuffs already in hand. Behind them stood Victoria, smiling like she’d just won the lottery.

“Mark Hale, you’re being charged with siphoning twelve million dollars from Hale Corp accounts,” the lead officer said flatly. “We have bank records, transfer logs—all traced straight to your personal ID.”

“That’s impossible!” I shouted. “I didn’t touch a cent! She set me up!”

“Of course you’d say that.” Victoria stepped forward, voice soft and fake-sad. “I tried to talk to you about it. Told you it was wrong. But you said you needed the money for… for things you wouldn’t explain. And then when Lily found out, you got angry—you made me punish her so she’d keep quiet.”

My stomach dropped. She wasn’t just framing me for money. She was twisting the whole story—turning me into the villain, herself into the helpless victim.

“Lily’s in the car,” I said, jaw tight. “She’ll tell you the truth.”

Victoria laughed darkly. “Oh, Lily’s been lying for you for months. We have proof she’s been accessing your private files too. Looks like the whole family’s in on it.”

The officers grabbed my arms. I fought back, but there were too many of them. As they clicked the cuffs shut, Victoria leaned in close, voice low enough only I could hear.

“By the time you get out of prison, I’ll own every last thing you have. Including your precious daughter.”
