Chapter 10: The Race Against Time

I didn’t stop to catch my breath. I ran straight for my car, tires screeching as I tore out of the parking lot. The airport was twenty minutes away—if I drove like a maniac, maybe twelve.

Sarah called as I merged onto the highway. “Voss’s private jet’s fueled and ready to go. They’re planning to fly her overseas—somewhere we’ll never find her.”

“Who else is with them?”

“Just Victoria and one pilot. But the gates are locked—they’ve got clearance to leave in ten minutes.”

I floored the gas, weaving between cars. “I’ll be there in five.”

“Mark—don’t do anything stupid. If they see you coming, they’ll take off early. Or worse.”

I hung up. I wasn’t leaving without Lily. Not ever.

When I skidded to a stop outside the private hangar, the jet’s engines were already spooling up. The stairs were down—and Victoria was halfway up, dragging Lily by the arm. Lily was fighting, kicking, screaming, but Victoria just slapped her hard across the face.

That was it. I threw the car into park, jumped out, and raised the gun.

“Victoria! Step away from her!”
