Chapter 11: The Threat

Victoria spun around, eyes wide. She pulled Lily in front of her, arm locked tight around her throat.
“Come one step closer and I’ll snap her neck!” she yelled over the roar of the engines. “Voss is already in custody—you’ve got nothing left to bargain with! Sign those papers and I’ll let her go!”
“I didn’t sign anything!” I shouted back. “And Voss is unconscious in my office. Your plan’s dead.”
For a split second, she hesitated. But then her face twisted into something ugly. “Then I guess we all lose. I’ll take her with me—you’ll never see her again.”
She dragged Lily up the stairs, slamming the door shut behind them. The jet started moving, turning toward the runway.
I ran after it, but it was too fast. It picked up speed, and for a second I thought it would take off right in front of me—until two black SUVs skidded to a stop across the runway, blocking its path.
Sarah jumped out, followed by four armed federal agents. The jet’s pilot cut the engines immediately.
Victoria kicked the door open again, gun now pressed to Lily’s temple. “Back off! All of you! Or she dies!”
