Chapter 6: The Safe House

My lawyer posted bail within the hour—though I wasn’t going anywhere near a courtroom until I had Lily back. Sarah drove us straight to a cabin hidden deep in the hills outside the city—Clara’s old family property, the one no one but us knew existed.
“Victoria won’t find her here,” Sarah said as we walked inside. “But we need to move fast. If Voss is involved, he’s got private security, dirty cops—people everywhere.”
I paced the floor, hands shaking. “She said Lily ‘won’t be a problem anymore.’ What does that mean? What are they gonna do to her?”
“First we find the proof that clears you. Then we get her back.” Sarah pulled up a map on her tablet. “Voss has a warehouse down by the docks—he uses it for shady deals. My source says they took a girl matching Lily’s description there an hour ago.”
I grabbed my jacket and headed for the door. “Then that’s where I’m going.”
“Mark, wait—you can’t go alone! It’s a trap!”
I didn’t stop. “That’s my daughter in there. I don’t care what it is—I’m walking right into it.”
