CHAPTER 4: THE FIGHT

Brandon didn't give up easily.

He came back the next day. And the day after that. And the day after that.

He showed up with flowers, with apologies, with promises to change.

I refused to see him.

He sent me texts and emails and letters.

I ignored them all.

He tried to use the babies as leverage.

"The girls need a father," he said.

"The girls need a father who shows up," I replied. "Not one who walks away when things get hard."

He called my mother, my sister, my friends.

He told them I was being unreasonable.

He told them I was keeping his children from him.

But my family knew the truth.

They had seen how much I was struggling. They had seen how little he helped. They had seen him walk out the door.

When he came to the house one evening, drunk and angry, I called the police.

They arrested him for trespassing.

After that, he stopped coming around.

And I started healing.
