CHAPTER 2: THE FOUR DAYS

The first day was hell.

Both babies cried nonstop. I was exhausted, starving, and running on pure adrenaline. I changed diapers, made bottles, rocked them to sleep, and cleaned up messes while my hands shook.

The second day was worse.

I realized I couldn't keep doing this alone. I called my mother, my sister, a neighbor—anyone who could help. But everyone was busy. Everyone had their own lives.

So I kept going.

The third day, something changed.

I stopped feeling sorry for myself.

I stopped waiting for Brandon to come back and save me.

I started thinking.

And by the fourth day, I had made a decision.

I was done being a doormat.

I was done being the only one carrying this family.

And I was done making excuses for a man who had abandoned me when I needed him most.

The twins were sleeping peacefully in their nursery. I stood in the living room, looking at the mess around me, and I felt a strange sense of calm.

I called a lawyer.

May you like

I started packing.

And when Brandon finally came home, I was ready.
