Chapter 6 - The Trap Spreads

There was a long, suffocating pause on the line.

"What paragraph fourteen?" Vanessa demanded, her voice losing its smug composure.

"Paragraph fourteen states that any contract signed under fraudulent misrepresentation of identity or legal status is void from inception," I stated clearly.

"You signed that document under the name Vanessa Sterling."

"Your legal birth name, according to state records, is Vanessa Jenkins."

The line went dead quiet.

"You lied about your name to evade your prior financial judgments," I continued coldly.

"If you attempt to file a single lawsuit against my son, I will submit those documents directly to the District Attorney's fraud division."

I heard her breathing heavily through the phone, frantic and ragged.

"You monster," she whimpered, her venom turning into desperate fear.

"You're destroying my life!"

"You destroyed your own life the moment you poured dirty water on a woman you thought had no power," I said softly.

"Never call my family again."

I ended the call and blocked the number immediately.

I turned around to see Daniel standing in the doorway of the conservatory.

He had heard the entire conversation.

His face was pale, but his jaw was set firmly.

"She was going to try and sue us?" Daniel asked softly.

"She was grasping at straws, son," I said, walking over to him.

"When people like her lose control, they try to inflict as much damage as possible before running away."

Daniel looked down at his phone, which suddenly buzzed with a text notification.

His eyes widened as he read the screen.
