Chapter 13 - A Mother's Vow

Agent Vance turned to his officers and signaled them to take Julian away.
"We will need you and your son to provide formal statements at the federal courthouse tomorrow morning, Mrs. Whitmore," Vance said, handing me his business card.
"The fraud charges against your family foundation are officially dismissed."
"Thank you, Agent Vance," I said, shaking his hand firmly.
As the police cars drove away, carrying my husband's treacherous brother to a holding cell, quiet descended over the Whitmore estate once more.
Rosa and Luis walked into the foyer, carrying brooms and mops to clean the floor.
"Is it finally over, ma'am?" Rosa asked, her eyes filled with hope.
"It is over, Rosa," I smiled softly.
"The house is clean."
Daniel walked over to the tall glass doors, staring out at the peaceful afternoon sun warming the manicured lawn.
I stood beside him, resting my head gently against his arm.
"I'm sorry you had to go through all of this, Daniel," I murmured softly.
"No, Mom," Daniel said, turning to wrap his arms around me in a tight, protective hug.
"Thank you for fighting for me."
"Thank you for saving me from myself."
I looked out at the estate my husband and I had built with our own hands—a place of love, dignity, and quiet strength.
"A mother's job is never done, my son," I whispered gently into the warm air.
