Chapter 6 - The Trap is Set

Three days later, Harrison took Olivia and Ethan to the Blackwell Corporate Tower in Manhattan.

Olivia’s shoulder was healing quickly, but Harrison refused to let her leave his sight.

She wore a elegant black suit provided by Harrison’s personal stylist.

She no longer looked like an underpaid catering staff member.

She looked like she belonged at the top of the world.

As they walked through the marble lobby, executive officers bowed their heads in respect to Harrison.

"Mr. Blackwell, the board members are waiting in the main conference room," Harrison’s secretary announced.

"They are demanding an update on the Vance Logistics merger."

Harrison looked down at Ethan, who was holding Olivia’s healthy hand tightly.

"Take Ethan to my private office on the 80th floor," Harrison told Olivia.

"It has bulletproof glass and biometric locks."

"No one enters without my code."

"Understood," Olivia nodded.

She led Ethan toward the executive elevator.

As the doors were about to close, a tall man in a dark blue suit slipped into the elevator with them.

He had slicked-back hair and a fake, oily smile.

It was Julian Vance, Victoria’s older brother and the Vice President of Vance Logistics.

"Well, well, well," Julian sneered, looking Olivia up and down.

"The famous heroine."

"The girl who stole my sister's spotlight."

Ethan cowered slightly behind Olivia’s leg.

Olivia immediately placed herself between Julian and the little boy.

"This is a private elevator, Mr. Vance," Olivia said calmly.

"You need clearance for the 80th floor."

Julian chuckled darkly, reaching into his suit jacket.

"I have all the clearance I need, darling."

Suddenly, the elevator jolted violently and came to a dead stop between the 60th and 61st floors.

The lights inside flickered and turned to red emergency illumination.

Ethan cried out in fear.

"What did you do?" Olivia demanded, her eyes narrowing as she watched Julian.

Julian pulled out a small black jammer device from his pocket.

"Just creating a small window of opportunity," Julian said smoothly, stepping closer to them.

"My sister wants her wedding back on track."

"And Harrison needs to understand that accidents happen to people who get in our way."

Julian reached out his hand to grab Ethan's arm.

Olivia’s instincts kicked in instantly.

Without a second thought, she swung her elbow back and smashed it directly into Julian’s nose.
