Chapter 17 - Blood and Fire

Harrison handed the sleeping Ethan to his head security officer behind him.

"Get Ethan to the escape pod at the end of the line," Harrison commanded softly.

"What about you?" the officer asked nervously.

"I’m going to kill this bastard," Harrison said flatly.

Before Victor could give the order to open fire, Harrison pulled a small remote control from his belt and pressed a trigger.

A series of hidden explosive charges attached to the tunnel ceiling detonated above Victor’s guards.

BOOM!

Tons of concrete and steel beams collapsed onto Victor's men, crushing half of them instantly under massive rubble.

Dust and screams filled the narrow subway shaft.

Harrison pulled two tactical handguns and began firing into the cloud of dust with terrifying precision.

"Olivia! Stay low!" Harrison roared over the deafening gunshots.

Olivia dropped to her knees, scrambling behind an iron support beam.

She saw one of Victor’s surviving guards aiming his rifle directly at Harrison’s back while Harrison was engaging two other enemies.

"Harrison! Behind you!" Olivia screamed.

Without hesitation, Olivia grabbed a heavy steel crowbar lying on the tracks.

She rushed forward through the blinding dust and smashed the crowbar with all her strength against the guard's knee.

The guard screamed, dropping his rifle.

Harrison spun around instantly, firing a single round into the guard's chest.

He pulled Olivia into his arms, checking her rapidly for wounds.

"Are you insane?!" Harrison yelled over the noise, his heart hammering against his chest.

"You could have been killed!"

"I told you!" Olivia yelled back, her eyes blazing with fierce determination. "I am standing beside you, not behind you!"

Through the settling dust, they saw Victor Vance crawling away toward an emergency exit door at the end of the tunnel.

His silver cane was broken, and his expensive suit was covered in blood and concrete dust.

"He's escaping!" Olivia shouted, pointing at Victor.

Harrison picked up an assault rifle from a fallen guard, his face morphing into a mask of pure vengeance.

"Not today," Harrison whispered.
