Chapter 10 - Whispering Shadows

The news of Arthur Sterling’s arrest sent shockwaves through Wall Street.
Blackwell stock fluctuated, but Harrison’s swift ruthlessness kept the company afloat.
That night, back at the estate, a heavy thunderstorm slammed against the glass windows.
Olivia sat in the library, reviewing corporate security logs on her laptop.
She couldn't get Arthur Sterling’s final words out of her head.
You have no idea who is really pulling the strings.
Was Arthur just bluffing out of desperation?
Or was there another mastermind hiding in the shadows?
The library door creaked open softly.
Harrison walked in, wearing a dark gray sweater and holding two glasses of aged whiskey.
He set one glass down on the desk beside her.
"You are working too hard," Harrison said, sitting on the edge of the mahogany desk.
"I’m trying to protect your family, Harrison," Olivia said, looking up from her screen.
"Arthur’s financial logs don't add up."
"He received fifty million dollars in an offshore account three days before Ethan’s accident."
"The wire transfer came from an anonymous shell company registered in Zurich."
Harrison took a slow sip of his whiskey, his gaze locked onto her face.
"I already have my international team tracing the Swiss account," Harrison said gently.
"Stop worrying for one night, Olivia."
Olivia sighed, leaning back against her chair.
"I can't help it."
"My whole life used to be simple."
"I served drinks, paid rent, and tried to survive."
"Now I’m caught in the middle of a war between billionaires."
Harrison leaned down, placing his hand over hers on the desk.
His touch was warm and steady.
"You are not caught in the middle, Olivia," Harrison said, his deep voice vibrating in her chest.
"You are standing right beside me."
Olivia looked up into his dark grey eyes.
The silence between them stretched tight, filled with unspoken tension and intense longing.
Harrison reached out and gently cupped her cheek with his hand.
Olivia’s breath caught in her throat.
"I spent my whole life surrounded by people who wanted something from me," Harrison whispered, leaning closer until his lips were inches from hers.
"My money, my power, my name."
"Then you jumped onto a stone staircase without knowing who I was."
"You saved my world without asking for anything in return."
Before Olivia could answer, her laptop speaker suddenly emitted a loud, piercing alarm.
