Chapter 28: The Storm

That autumn, a bad storm hit the town. Power lines went down, roads flooded, and the old mill where we’d hidden was nearly washed away.
Lucas and Jude spent three days straight helping people evacuate, sandbagging homes, and delivering supplies. Ethan carried flashlights and warm blankets from dawn till dusk.
When it was over, our house was untouched—but the community center had taken water damage.
“We’ll fix it,” Jude said simply. “Together.”
Every volunteer who’d come before showed up again. Every business we’d helped pitched in. Within two weeks, it was better than before.
