Chapter 26: The Family He Never Knew

Over the next weeks, more people came forward—cousins, aunts, old friends of Jude’s birth mother. For the first time, he had a family of his own beyond Lucas.

He’d always thought he was alone. Now he had a whole branch of people who’d been looking for him, praying for him, wondering where he’d gone.

Lucas watched him laugh and talk with them, and his eyes glistened. “You were never really lost,” he said later. “You were just waiting for the right door to open.”

That night, Jude moved into the guest wing of our house—not because he had to, but because he wanted to.
