CHAPTER 10: THE CONFRONTATION

Dominic was in a meeting when his phone buzzed.

It was a message from Grace.

"Vivian is here. At my apartment. She wants to talk."

His blood ran cold.

He responded immediately.

"Do not open the door. I'm on my way."

He drove to her apartment in record time, his mind racing with worst-case scenarios.

When he arrived, Grace was standing in the hallway, her face pale.

"She left a few minutes ago," she said.

"What did she want?"

"She wanted to apologize."

Dominic stared at her.

"She what?"

"She said she was wrong. She said she's been under a lot of pressure, and she took it out on me. She offered to help me find a job."

"She's lying."

"I know."

Dominic walked into her apartment and closed the door.

"She's testing you. Trying to see if you'll let your guard down."

"Don't worry. I won't."

Dominic was quiet for a moment.

"Grace, I need to tell you something."

"What?"

"Vivian isn't just a socialite. She's connected to my rivals. She's been trying to get close to me for years."

Grace's eyes widened.

"She was using the gala to get close to you?"

"Probably. And when you stopped her from hurting my mother, she realized you were a threat."

"So now she's trying to get close to me instead?"

"Yes. And I need you to be careful."

"Don't worry about me," Grace said. "I can take care of myself."

"I know you can. But that doesn't stop me from worrying."

He reached out and took her hand.

"Grace, I need you to trust me."

"I do trust you."

"Then promise me you'll be careful."

"I promise."

He looked into her eyes.

"I don't know what I'd do if something happened to you."

Grace felt her heart skip a beat.

"Nothing's going to happen to me," she said.

"Promise me."

"I promise."

They stood there, their hands intertwined, their eyes locked.

And in that moment, they both knew.

They were in love.

And nothing was ever going to be the same.
