Chapter 9 - The Poisoned Legacy

Madison’s confidence wavered for the very first time.
She looked at her watch screen.
The digital timer showed two minutes remaining before the automated launch.
"You’re bluffing," Madison said, her voice shaking slightly.
"You love this company."
"Your father built it from nothing."
"My father built it on honor," Adrian retorted sharply.
"Not on stolen money and blood."
Natalie stepped beside Adrian, her head held high.
"Expose them, Madison," Natalie challenged.
"Let the whole world see what kind of criminals you and your partners are."
Caleb suddenly ran back into the center of the room, looking pale and completely panicked.
"No! Madison, don't do it!" Caleb shrieked, falling onto his knees before her.
"If you release those files, they will see my signature on the wire transfers!"
"I’ll go to prison for the rest of my life!"
The crowd gasped loudly.
Margaret looked at her youngest son as if he were a complete stranger.
"Caleb..." Margaret whispered in horrific realization.
"You... you signed those transfers?"
Caleb looked up at his mother with tears streaming down his face.
"I had to, Mom!" Caleb sobbed.
"I had five million dollars in gambling debts with offshore bookies!"

"They threatened to cut my throat!"
"Madison said she would clear my debt if I gave her access to Claire's private accounts!"
