Chapter 7 - The Interrupted Arrest

Red and blue emergency lights flashed through the tall glass windows of the estate.
Four Chicago police cruisers pulled up along the circular driveway outside.
Sirens cut through the night air.
Chief Detective Robert Miller stepped through the front double doors, flanked by four armed officers.
Miller took off his trench coat and handed it to a junior officer.
"We received an emergency silent alarm from this address," Miller stated, looking across the crowded room.
"Mr. Westwood, what is going on here?"
Adrian walked directly to Detective Miller and handed him the red Cartier case.
"This is evidence from the night my wife died," Adrian said clearly.
"My former fiancée, Madison Cole, illegally entered my dead wife's locked suite to search for it."
Detective Miller looked at the red box with deep surprise.
"This was listed as destroyed in the vehicle fire three years ago," Miller noted.
"It was hidden before she got in the car," Adrian explained.
"There is a USB drive inside detailing financial fraud."
"And a letter identifying Madison Cole as a direct threat to Claire's life."
Detective Miller turned his gaze toward Madison.
"Miss Cole, you need to come down to the station for questioning."
Madison didn't flinch.
Instead, a cold, calculated smile spread across her red lips.
"I won't be going anywhere, Detective," Madison said smoothly.
She held up her wrist.
A luxury smartwatch glowed brightly on her skin.
"If I don't enter my security code into this watch every thirty minutes..."

She paused, looking directly at Adrian.
