Chapter 7 - BETRAYAL IN THE DARK

"You think you're rescuing him, Captain Ross?" Dr. Miller sneered, backing away from the operating table.

"You have no idea what Tyler was carrying in his chest harness."

Before Ethan could respond, a smoke grenade crashed through the frosted window of the OR.

Thick, suffocating gray gas billowed instantly throughout the room.

Nurses screamed and scattered toward the exits.

Clara ducked low, grabbing a clean oxygen mask and pressing it over Tyler's face.

Through the dense smoke, gunshots rang out in rapid succession.

Ethan fired back, the muzzle flashes illuminating the chaos in bright flashes.

Clara felt a heavy hand grab her coat, attempting to drag her away from the operating table.

She swung an tray of surgical tools, striking her attacker across the face.

The attacker grunted and stumbled backward into the darkness.

"Clara! Get the patient out of here!" Ethan shouted through the haze.

Clara unlocked the gurney wheels with her foot and shoved the heavy table toward the rear service exit.

The emergency doors burst open into a darkened supply hallway.

She pushed Tyler's gurney alone, her lungs burning from the acrid smoke.

Behind her, the sounds of hand-to-hand combat resonated through the corridor.

She didn't know who to trust anymore.

Dr. Miller was a traitor, the hospital was compromised, and the soldier on the table held a dangerous secret.

She pushed the gurney into an abandoned elevator bank, slamming the control panel button.

The elevator doors began to close just as a shadow stepped into the doorway.
