Chapter 6 - THE SABOTEUR'S TOUCH

Ethan stepped inside the room, his hand resting heavy on his sidearm.
"Why did the lights just cut out?" Ethan demanded, scanning the faces of the medical staff.
"It's just the auxiliary generator switching over," Dr. Miller said smoothly, though sweat beaded on his forehead.
Clara quietly pulled the cloudy IV line away from Tyler's arm.
"Dr. Miller, this saline bag is contaminated," Clara stated audibly.
The surgical room fell dead silent.
Dr. Miller froze, his scalpel hovering millimeters above the patient's open tissue.
"Nonsense, Clara. You are misreading standard medical supplies under stress," Dr. Miller snapped.
"I know potassium chloride precipitate when I see it," Clara retorted sharply.
"This would have stopped his heart in less than two minutes."
Ethan's weapon cleared his holster with a sharp metallic click.
"Everyone freeze," Ethan ordered, pointing his sidearm at Dr. Miller.
The room temperature seemed to drop below freezing.
"Captain, put that gun away! I am trying to save his life!" Dr. Miller shouted.
"You're trying to execute him," Clara said, holding up the tainted IV bag.
Outside, the distant rumble of mortar fire shook the building once more.
The hospital was surrounded, and traitorous forces were already inside the surgical bay.
Ethan stepped toward Dr. Miller with eyes cold as ice.
"Step away from my man, Doctor. Now."

Dr. Miller slowly raised his gloved hands, a twisted smile appearing beneath his surgical mask.
