Chapter 5 - UNSPOKEN DOUBTS

"Hurry up then!" Dr. Miller commanded, adjusting his surgical visor.

"Yes, sir!" Clara replied instantly.

She glided over to the anesthesia station, her fingers moving across the controls with practiced precision.

She inserted the airway tube smoothly into Tyler's trachea, monitoring the lung expansion.

The heart monitor stabilized slightly, its rhythmic tone soothing the tense room.

Outside the glass doors, Captain Ethan Ross stood guard, watching Clara's every move through the window.

Ethan's eyes narrowed as he noticed something unusual about the wounded soldier's tactical vest.

Inside an inner pocket of Tyler's uniform was a sealed silver drive, smeared with blood.

Ethan touched his own chest pocket, confirming his own copy was still secure.

The enemy hadn't attacked the hospital by accident.

They were tracking the data stored on those drives.

Suddenly, the power grid flickered inside the operating room.

The main surgical lights died for three agonizing seconds before emergency backup hummed to life.

Clara caught Dr. Miller exchanging a subtle, nervous glance with one of the assistant nurses.

Why was the senior surgeon looking so guilty?

Clara checked the IV drip bag and noticed a strange cloudiness in the saline solution.

She hesitated, her finger hovering over the flow regulator.

Was someone inside this room trying to sabotage the operation?

May you like

Before she could inspect the bag, the doors of the OR flew open.
