Rachel was convicted on:
One fraud count involving the Whitaker wedding.
Acquitted on:
Arden retreat count.
Why?
Venue witness on Arden admitted staff relied primarily on existing master agreement, not Rachel’s representation that Thomas approved.
Reasonable doubt on reliance.
Whitaker documentation was clearer.
The venue manager had specifically emailed:
Please confirm Mr. Hale approves continued guarantee use.
Rachel replied:
Confirmed.
She had no such approval.
Criminally proven amount at risk:
Approximately $34,000
at time of booking.
Actual unpaid loss eventually:
$11,800
after client payments.
The verdict did not make every past booking criminal.
That mattered.
Thomas looked dissatisfied.
