The morning sun rose warmly over the coastal hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

I stood on the wide stone terrace, feeling the cool ocean breeze on my face.
My father walked out onto the terrace beside me, holding two cups of warm tea.
He handed one to me, his dark gray eyes filled with a quiet, profound pride.
"The federal court rendered its final verdict this morning," my father said softly, looking out at the glittering blue horizon.
"Nathan Ashford was sentenced to twenty-eight years without parole."
"Celeste Monroe received eighteen years for financial racketeering and obstruction of justice."
"Her father, former Senator Monroe, was stripped of all public office and sentenced to fifteen years."
I took a slow, quiet sip of my tea, feeling the warmth spread through my chest.
There was no anger left in my heart.
