Chapter 19 - The Storm on the Cliff

A high-pitched electronic whine echoed through the dark house, followed by the muffled thuds of silenced gunfire outside.

"What is that?!" Nathan shrieked, dropping his glass onto the stone floor.

"Security team! Report!" Kaelen bellowed into his radio.

Only static answered.

One by one, the red status lights on Kaelen's tactical monitor turned from green to black.

Within sixty seconds, all ten perimeter guards were offline.

"They found us..." Kaelen gasped, drawing his sidearm and stepping in front of Nathan.

The heavy double oak doors of the library were violently blown off their hinges by a targeted breaching charge.

BOOM!

Smoke and flash-blindness filled the room.

Before Kaelen could raise his rifle, three red laser sights locked onto his chest.

A single suppressed round echoed through the smoke, and Kaelen collapsed to the floor, disarmed and unconscious.

As the smoke cleared, five black-clad tactical operators from Vale Dominion Security formed a lethal wall around the room.

Stepping through the doorway, holding a high-powered tactical flashlight, was my father.

And right beside him, wearing a dark Kevlar trench coat, was me.
