Chapter 4 - The Cellar of Truth

Two female federal agents stepped up to Celeste, pulling her arms behind her back despite her hysterical screams.
"Get your filthy hands off me!" she shrieked, kicking her heels against the stone floor.
"My father is Senator Monroe! He will destroy every single one of you!"
Elias Vale pulled a slender white dossier from his coat pocket and tossed it onto the glass coffee table beside her empty champagne glass.
"Your father, Senator Monroe, was arrested twelve minutes ago at his estate in Virginia," my father said flatly.
Celeste stopped screaming.
Her eyes went wide, fixed on the red seal stamped across the dossier.
"The shell companies you created in the Cayman Islands were not just holding Nathan's stolen money," my father revealed.
"They were holding your father's illegal campaign kickbacks."
"When Elena activated her transmitter, she didn't just expose Nathan's domestic abuse."
"She unlocked the master ledger."
Celeste collapsed to her knees, the silk of her expensive designer dress tearing against the shattered glass on the floor.
She looked at Nathan, then at me, realizing that her entire life—her wealth, her status, her immunity—had been wiped out in a single evening.
"You..." Celeste choked out, staring at me with pure, poisonous hatred.
"You planned this... from the very beginning..."
"No, Celeste," I replied softly, taking a handkerchief from my father to wipe the copper taste of blood from my lips.
"I gave you both four years to choose humanity."
"I gave you four years to show a single shred of mercy, honesty, or remorse."
"You chose cruelty every single time."
May you like
"And tonight, you finally paid for it."
