Chapter 21 - The Unbroken Horizon

Two weeks later.
The morning sun rose brilliantly over the rolling green hills of Virginia.
The Eleanor Vale Children's Estate was bathed in warm, golden light.
The expansion was complete, and fifty new children had arrived that morning, their happy voices and laughter filling the wide playgrounds and sunlit corridors.
I stood on the wide stone terrace, drinking my morning tea, feeling the warm breeze against my skin.
David Vance walked out onto the porch, handing me a final legal ledger.
"All Vance offshore trusts have been permanently dissolved, Miss Vale," David reported with a warm, respectful smile.
"The legal entity of Ashford Global has been officially expunged from all international registries."
"And Nathan?" I asked softly, looking out over the horizon.
"He will spend the rest of his life in a maximum-security underground facility," David replied.
"He has no visitors, no mail privileges, and no access to the outside world."
"He has been completely erased."
I closed the ledger and handed it back to David with a soft, peaceful nod.
"Thank you, David."
My father walked out onto the terrace, taking his place beside me, wrapping a warm arm around my shoulders as we looked out at the bright, beautiful world we had protected.
The shadows of the past were dead and buried.

The dragons had been slain.
And as the sun rose higher into the clear blue sky, I knew that my life, my freedom, and my future were finally, completely unbroken.
