Chapter 13 - The Final Clearing

The suite door was kicked open with a heavy thud.
Four armed federal agents, accompanied by two Swiss Interpol representatives, stepped into the room with drew weapons.
"Victor Vance," the lead Interpol officer announced in a crisp accent.
"You are under arrest for international wire fraud, money laundering, and treason."
Victor stood frozen near the window, staring at me as the agents pulled his arms behind his back and clicked heavy steel cuffs around his wrists.
The cultured, untouchable billionaire was gone, replaced by a terrified old man facing the rest of his life behind bars.
"You... you destroyed everything..." Victor choked out as he was led past me.
"No, Victor," I said softly, looking him straight in the eye.
"I simply collected the debt."
Two hours later, I sat in my father's car as we drove slowly past the Chicago waterfront.
The city lights reflected brilliantly against the dark blue water of the lake.
My father sat beside me, sipping his warm tea from a silver travel mug, looking out the window with a quiet, peaceful expression.
"Nathan’s appeal was officially denied twenty minutes ago," my father reported softly.
"When he learned that Victor Vance was arrested, he had a complete mental collapse in his cell."
"He has been placed on suicide watch."
I looked out at the glowing skyline, feeling no joy at Nathan's final destruction, nor any sadness.
Only a profound, unshakeable clarity.
"It's finally over, isn't it, Dad?" I asked.
My father reached over, taking my hand in his with a warm, steady grip that had protected me my entire life.
"Yes, my sweet girl," my father smiled gently, his eyes filled with endless love.
