Chapter 27: The Letter

A year later, I got another letter.

This time from Andrew.

He was getting out of prison.

Early.

He'd been good.

Rehabilitated.

I read the letter.

Mariana, I know I don't deserve anything from you. But I wanted to tell you that I'm different. I've changed. I've been going to therapy. I've been working on myself. I'm not the same person I was.

I'm not asking for forgiveness. I'm not asking for anything. I just wanted to say that I'm sorry. For everything.

And I hope you're happy.

A.

I folded the letter.

Put it in the drawer with the others.

And I didn't respond.

May you like

Because I was happy.

And I didn't need his permission.
